How to cook Tomato Chutney - Tasty side dish for Dosa, idli ,chapathi & Rice

Su’s Kitchenette : Tomato chutney is a simple side dish, very easy to cook. it goes well with Dosa, Idli, Chapati, Rice and tastes delicious.

Ingredients:

Tomato – 4
Onion – 1
Green chilli -1
Garlic cloves – 4 to 5 chopped
Curry leaves – 8
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilli Powder – 1tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 1tbsp

Method :

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves .let it splutter. Now add about 4 to 5 chopped garlic cloves. and fry for a minute on a medium flame.

Now add finely chopped onion , fry it for 2 mins and add 1 chopped green chilli. saute and cook until onion is translucent.

Add 4 finely chopped tomatoes and mix well .add1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of chilli powder, salt to taste and mix well. cook for 3 minutes.

Add little water and cook for another 10 minutes. Put off the flame when tomatoes are completely cooked and serve.

Gongura Chutney | Pulichakeerai Thokku in Tamil( description in English)

Spicy and tasty chutney that goes well with rice, rotis, idly or dosa. Can be stored for more than 10 days when refrigerated.
Clean and wash the gongura leaves.I have used 1 big bunch.In a pan add 4 tsp of Gingely oil, add 15 red chillies and 1 tsp of hing powder,roast and remove.Then add the leaves and little more oil and fry the leaves until it becomes very soft. Cool and grind red chillies and add a small lemon sized tamarind, requried salt and fried leaves into a paste.Then again heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pan, add a tsp of mustard seeds and 2 red chillies. Once it splutters, add the ground paste and fry well till it absorbs all the oil.Remove from flame, cool and store it in an air-tight container.
